Who Open Burns?
Now that we know what open burning is, let’s find out who does it. In most urban areas, or cities, it is against the law to open burn. Cities have roadside trash pickup to get rid of household waste. After pickup, the waste is brought to a landfill.
Most rural, or country, families do not have roadside trash pickup. We see most open burning in these rural areas. It is estimated that there are up to 500,000 burn barrels in Wisconsin alone! That is a lot of trash being burned!
Farms are another place that we see open burning. Farms produce a lot of waste, and use open burning to dispose of it.
