Burning trash is illegal. In Wisconsin it is against the law to burn plastics, food scraps, wet material, treated or painted wood, furniture, tires, greasy rags, clothing, recyclables or any other material that creates a nuisance.

There are some items that are sometimes legal to burn (though there may be a better disposal option) such as lawn clippings, small amounts of clean dry wood, and paper products that cannot be recycled. Some local governments may ban some of these items from being burned. Call your local city hall and find out what can be burned in your area.
